The Brockville Museum is a hub of community activity –
it is home to several heritage partners as well as a meeting place
for many community groups.
Being a community meeting place is mutually beneficial –
the community groups benefit from the museum’s
accessibility, kitchen facilities, sound system, and most importantly
the many networking opportunities – the museum benefits
from great support from these various groups.
The Leeds & Grenville
Genealogical Society is housed in the lower level of Beecher
House. The Society’s genealogical records in combination
with the museum’s research library and archival collection
provide visitors, researchers, genealogists, authors and historians
a wealth of resources under the same roof.
The Brockville and District HISTORICAL
SOCIETY members meet at the Brockville Museum. The society
hosts an annual ‘Show and Tell’ which provides an
opportunity for members and guests to showcase a personal treasure.
The society continues to contribute to the operation of the museum
by providing speakers or purchasing equipment and supplies for
special projects.
The City of Brockville is very proud of the accomplishments of
the Brockville Infantry Co.
RE-ENACTORS (1862). This group of men and women have researched
the 1862 military story, and share their knowledge with their
encampments and participation in re-enactments throughout the
province and beyond.
The infantry members dressed in their attractive scarlet tunics
are always on hand for museum educational programs, community
fairs and parades. Their organizational meetings are held once
a month in the museum.
The Col. Edward Jessup Branch of The United Empire LOYALISTS
Association of Canada meet regularly.
Once a month the Thousand Islands YARNSPINNERS
meet at the museum. Well known children’s performer and
story teller, Deborah Dunleavy leads the group in spinning yarns,
which very often have a historical background. These story tellers
are dedicated to the preservation of, the oral art of telling
stories.
Visit the museum on the last Thursday of each month and see the
BASKET GUILD, creating
their beautiful hand-made baskets. They weave with rattan reeds
that are soaked in water. Instructor is Gwyn Marriott who is also
Chairperson of the museum’s Board of Management.
Tuesdays you will find the ARTISTIC
STITCHERS busy with their many projects. Each Monday morning
the CRAFT AND CHAT
group meet to work on crafts and to socialize. This group is most
generous with support to the museum – volunteers, donors
and memberships.
The local R.C.A.F. Sabre
Wing 450 calls the Brockville Museum home. Monthly pot luck dinners
are enjoyed by members and guests.
