Brockville HMCS

Named on May 21st, 1942 the HMCS BROCKVILLE was a 590-ton Bangor Class diesel minesweeper. HMCS BROCKVILLE, pennant J-270, was equipped with one 12-pounder gun, close-range anti-aircraft weapons and depth-charges for use against submarines; she carried six officers and 55 ratings. BROCKVILLE spent her wartime career escorting merchant ships in the North Atlantic where, German U-boats were a threat to Britain’s lines of supply. She was first commissioned on September 19, 1942 and made her last run as a convoy escort in May of 1945. After the war she was taken over by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and renamed MACLEOD. In April of 1951 she became a coastal escort under the name of BROCKVILLE. She was sold in 1961 to J. A. L. Steamships of Wallaceburg, Ontario.
BROCKVILLE has earned the proud battle honours: “Atlantic 1942 - 1945" and “Gulf of St. Lawrence” Battle Honour (awarded in 1993)
