Dutch Day of Remembrance/People of Brockville Exhibit Opening

Wednesday May 04, 2016

    1:45 PM

    2:15 PM

At 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4 the Brockville Museum will observe Dodenherdenking, the Dutch Day of Remembrance, an annual observance in the Netherlands at which time those who were killed during World War II and in subsequent conflicts and peace-keeping missions are remembered.

The Brockville Dutch Choir will be performing at the ceremony, which will also include appropriate readings and a two-minute moment of silence at exactly 2 p.m., coinciding with the moment of silence occurring in the Netherlands.

The local Dutch community continues to play an integral part in the evolution of our community.  Like many other individuals and groups they have an interesting story to tell. Fittingly, at the conclusion of the Day of Remembrance ceremony, attendees will be invited to join Curator/Director Natalie Wood for the opening of the new “People of Brockville” exhibit. In addition to the existing 15 “People of Brockville’ panels, three new ones will be unveiled at this time.  These panels recognize former Mayor Ben TeKamp, historian John Mercier McMullen, and politician Tom Cossitt.
